Whipped Body Butter

Picture
Ingredients:
  • 1/4c Shea Butter
  • 1/4c Cocoa Butter
  • 1/4 c Coconut Oil
  • 1/4 c light oil (sweet almond/jojoba/olive)
(I use jojoba because I have noticed it does not leave the skin greasy feeling - as it is an oil with quicker absorption)
*note: if you use sweet almond or olive oil, it does leave the skin 'greasy' feeling for about 15 minutes until it soaks in. If you do not like that feeling, try using before bed*
  • 10-30 drops of desired essential oil
(Young Living Only- see my blog on why)
*makes enough to fill an 8oz jar*

Step 1 - In a double boiler (you don't need a double boiler-see pic below) combine all ingredients except essential oils.

*note: Cocoa Butter is hard and needs to be scraped out...put some elbow grease into it*

Step 2 - Stir constantly until all ingredients are melted then remove from heat

Step 3 - Add Essential oils of choice (I use 20 drops of Lavender & 10 drops of Frankincense)

Step 4 - Move bowl to fridge and let set for approx. 1.5 hours (or until body butter is starting to firm up, but still somewhat soft) *sorry I forgot to take a pic at this stage. Next time I make more I will add it in here*

Step 5 - Use hand mixer and whip for5-10 minutes. Body butter will look yellow at this stage and will turn a creamy white after whipped.

Step 6 - Return to fridge to set for 15minutes.

Step 7 - Store in colored* glass jar with a lid. If kept at greater then 75 degrees lotion may soften and need to be kept in fridge. (I have not had any issues with this yet)

*It should be kept in a colored glass jar to ensure oils are not damaged by sunlight*
